About This Directory
Independent editorial standards and verification methodology
Our Mission
To provide accurate, up-to-date information about certified canyoning operators and safety standards in Madeira, helping adventure seekers make informed decisions about their canyoning experiences while supporting local, certified businesses.
Operator Verification
- • Every listed operator holds a valid RNAAT (Registo Nacional dos Agentes de Animação Turística) registration
- • Permits and contact details cross-referenced with the Turismo de Portugal RNAAT public registry
- • Customer review signals monitored across Google, TripAdvisor, GetYourGuide and Viator
- • Operators flagged for inactivity, expired permits, or repeated safety incidents are removed
Canyon Data Methodology
- • Technical grades (V/A/III scale) sourced from operator route sheets and recognised canyoning literature
- • The home page and the operator comparison show the date of their last review
Editorial Independence
- • Operators do not pay to be listed - inclusion is based on RNAAT compliance, not commercial relationship
- • We earn commission from some bookings made through GetYourGuide and Viator links (clearly labelled
rel="sponsored") - • Affiliate revenue does not influence ranking, comparison, or which operators appear
- • Where a tour is bookable directly with the operator, that option is offered alongside affiliate links
Reader Safety Commitment
- • Difficulty levels mapped to a single transparent scale (Beginner → Extreme) so readers can self-screen
- • We do not promote unguided descents - every itinerary is paired with a certified operator
- • Reader-reported errors are reviewed via the contact form
